A boutique begins.

Romancia first opened its doors in Billinge, Wigan in 1996 as an independent bridal boutique built around a more personal experience. From the beginning, the focus was never simply selling dresses. It was helping women find something that genuinely felt like them.

Over the years, word travelled. Brides began visiting from across Wigan, St Helens, Manchester, Liverpool, and beyond, often returning years later with sisters, friends, daughters, and eventually their own families.

In 2017, the ownership of the boutique changed and the business expanded into prom and occasion wear, introducing a carefully curated collection for girls looking for something just as special for their own milestone moments.

Prom finds its place.

What began as a small prom collection quickly grew into something much bigger. Customers weren't simply coming in looking for a dress. They were looking for an experience that felt calmer, more personal, and far less overwhelming than traditional prom shopping.

And it wasn't only the girls who noticed the difference. It was the mums too. The ones who had walked into busy stores elsewhere and instantly known it just didn't feel right for their daughter.

Over time, we realised our customers valued the boutique for the same reasons. The calmer atmosphere. The private appointments. The slower pace. The feeling of genuinely being listened to and looked after properly throughout the experience.

So instead of trying to become louder, faster, or bigger like everyone else, we leaned further into what already made us different. A huge, handpicked collection from leading international designers. Inclusive sizing policies. A carefully managed exclusivity and back-ordering system. And above all, a reputation built over decades around customer care, trust, and making every customer's experience feel genuinely special from start to finish.

A new home.

In April 2023, Romancia moved its prom and occasion wear collections into a new four-storey home at 50 Gerrard Street, Ashton-in-Makerfield.

The space was designed very intentionally around the experience we wanted customers to have. Private fitting rooms. Dedicated styling areas. Calm appointment spaces. Free parking nearby. Enough room for every customer to feel comfortable, relaxed, and able to enjoy the experience.

At the time, our bridal boutique remained at our original Billinge location. Then by 2025, the full team and collections were brought back together under one roof at Gerrard Street, creating one shared home for bridal, prom, and occasion wear.

Today, the boutique spans four floors of carefully curated collections, private styling spaces, and dedicated appointment areas, designed around creating a calmer, more personal experience for every customer who walks through the door.

Dressed To Glow, today.

As the prom and occasion wear side of the boutique continued to grow, it became clear it deserved an identity of its own.

Alongside the launch of our own exclusive collection, Dressed To Glow was introduced as the new home for prom and occasion wear. A dedicated space for prom, birthdays, evening wear, modern mother of the bride, bridesmaids, and all the moments people want to feel incredible in what they're wearing.

While Romancia continues as the home of bridal, Dressed To Glow allows the prom and occasion wear side of the boutique to evolve with its own identity, experience, and carefully curated collections, while still being built on the same foundations that customers have trusted for decades.

Today, customers travel from across the North West and beyond for a calmer, more personal styling experience, a carefully handpicked collection from leading international designers, inclusive sizing, and the reassurance of a boutique that has built its reputation through recommendation, loyalty, and genuine customer care.

Still the same team. Still the same boutique. Still built around the belief that how someone feels in the dress matters just as much as the dress itself.
